How we rank

Every DigitalTop10 list ranks ten companies, #1 to #10. Each list starts with our top picks, scored by our editors. The rest are ranked by the scores and positions the leading independent review sites give them, so the order reflects what those sites agree on.

Auto Warranty

#1 is our top pick for most drivers, and its score is our editors’ rating.

#2 to #10 are ranked by their average score across six leading review sites, converted to a 10-point scale. A company had to appear on at least two of those sites to qualify.

Review sites used: Car Talk, Consumer Review Center, Screened, NerdWallet, Automoblog, ConsumerAffairs (customer rating).

Home Warranty

#1 and #2 are our top picks for most homeowners, and their scores are our editors’ ratings.

#3 to #10 are ranked by their average score across six leading review sites, converted to a 10-point scale. A company had to be scored by at least two of those sites to qualify.

Review sites used: This Old House, Forbes Advisor, Top10.com, Top Consumer Reviews, Retirement Living, ConsumerAffairs (customer rating).

Business Funding

#1 to #5 are our top picks for small businesses that need fast working capital, and their scores are our editors’ ratings.

#6 to #10 are scored on how the leading review sites rank them. A #1 spot on a site’s list earns 10 points and last place earns 7. We average those, and give extra weight to companies that appear on more sites. A company had to appear on at least two sites to qualify.
